Faithful friend of FCA,

This year’s FCA Sports Camp, held in Pella, Iowa at Central College hosted 260 student-athletes, 42 college-aged Huddle Leaders, and many coaches and their families. Of the 260 student-athletes, we had 35 salvations, 133 recommitments, and 93 who grew in their faith. Praise, God!

Here are a few quotes from camp:

“This camp has changed my life and the way that I want to pursue Jesus!!!”

“FCA has given me people that will be in my life forever after this week, God is so GOOD!!”

“ I love these leaders and I love these kids and if it wasn’t for FCA I don’t think I would be the person I am today.”

These quotes are just a small sample of the amazing feedback we heard from participants and leaders. As you can imagine, FCA Sports Camp continues its legacy of making an impact in the hearts of everyone involved.

This year was particularly special as Dave Turnball celebrated his 50th year having been involved with FCA Sports Camp. It was inspiring to hear him share his experience being involved with camp all these years and the tremendous impact it has had on his life. It goes without saying that although it forever changed him, his involvement alone has made an impact on thousands of lives.

-Awesome FCA Sports Camp in Pella, we had 42 college-age huddle leaders that poured into the high school campers, some quotes from our Huddle Leaders:

“This camp has changed my life and the way that I want to pursue Jesus!!!”
“FCA has given me people that will be in my life forever after this week, God is so GOOD!!”
“ I love these leaders and I love these kids and if it wasn’t for FCA I don’t think I would be the person I am today.”

-At camp we had 2 of our campers get baptized, in the fountain, by their Huddle Leaders, pretty impactful moment.

-During the weekend before FCA Sports Camp, we spent the weekend training and building up our Huddle Leaders, and had an impactful time in the prayer tower at 3rd Reformed where they were prayed over by the prayer team there. It was a refreshing and renewing prayer.

-Had the opportunity to be involved in Drake Football camps, being around coaches and players, and having deep meaningful conversations, I was able to step into their lives and hearts.

-During Drake fall football camp, we have an FCA huddle each night after a full day of practice, where we have players speak and share their hearts with their teammates…….reflecting on these questions…..how do you see God at work over this last year? What’s something you have done in the last year that moved me closer to God? How would you like to see God move in and on the team this year?

-Summer coaches bible study every Tuesday at 6 AM.

-Urbandale FCA was able to hold an end-of-the-year backyard event on Monday, June 28th. The graduating senior leaders all gave their testimonies and shared how God used them this past year.

-The Urbandale girl’s volleyball FCA huddle wrapped up the year on Friday, June 25th at Twisted Bean in Des Moines. Only one graduating senior so most of the girls will be back next year for small group Bible Study.

-The DCG Girls soccer FCA huddle finished strong in June with a 2nd place finish at the State championships. Congrats to the girls!
They had a special speaker before every home game this season.

-Johnston FCA held its end of the year event with a movie night at the high school on May 24th.

-All huddles are planning for the next school year. Please be in prayer for all of them that they make wise decisions.

-Camp was such a blessing to all coach’s leaders and students the week of July 12-16th. God used the huddle leaders and speakers to share Christ with all and many accepted Christ for the first time.

-Held our first character coach training event on August 8th.

-I was a part of the coaching staff for the Des Moines United FC soccer team which is a post-college team that plays in the 3rd division of US Soccer. We made it to the finals and placed 16th overall in the country. Which was exciting for our first year having ever participated.

-We wrapped up one of the most successful soccer seasons for the boys East HS soccer team. It has brought me so much joy to connect with students that are experiencing what I had when I came to the USA at a young age. I know God is using my experiences to help them with their transitions. We also hosted various summer activities for HS students, Des Moines Public Schools allowed me to host programing at Williams Turf Field where we had weekly practices and games most of the summer.

-We are starting to explore the National FCA Vision to include club, league, and world sports into our ministry.

-We are making progress with local churches by empowering them to use sports to reach and serve our city; for example, we helped Freedom for Youth do soccer as a way to reach new students.

-We are also growing the number of clinics we host by replicating what we do with Urban baseball for other sports.

-We are growing our ministry at Grandview, in fact, we have a waiting list for teams that want character coaches. Praise God! –> Please pray for our recruiting efforts as God brings more character coaches forward to serve this need.

-I served on the FCA Sports Camp Soccer coaching staff & we had 10 Des Moines Public School students come this summer and a few of those attending from this group had never attended a Christian event.
